If I had a choice, a beautiful mongrel would be mine...plus other jazz points to ponder

JAZZ IN HALIFAX | Wednesday October 21 2009
This week Halifax is bursting with cool things to do. JazzEast encourages you to go outside the lines of your usual day timer.

01. GREETINGS - The Wee Quiz results, JazzEast news, Holiday planning
02. HOT TICKET - Pick a beautiful mongrel and Sarah's birthday
03. EXPAND YOUR MIND - Jerry Granelli wants you to listen
04. JAZZ AROUND TOWN - some really weird and classic stuff for you
05. JAZZEAST IS COOL - In case you are wondering about us
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Good day lovely jazz fans. Switch your preferences to rich text, we're going for some bling

*Some changes have been made this issue: rich text, many hyperlinks, orange means JazzEast and no venues section (many of you really did not like it). More changes are coming and I want to share with you the quiz results, but there is no time. Next week, post concert. I will email the winner directly on Thursday.

*Spread the jazzeast love - If you know someone who would like to receive Jazz In Halifax, send me a note or direct them to www.jazzeast.com

02. A BEAUTIFUL MONGREL | FLAMENCO CON FUSION II
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When Lulu told me that Flamenco is a mongrel, I had no idea what she was talking about. Then she gave me a lesson. Being from Spain, Flamenco music was hit on all sides with Arabic, Jewish and African sounds. It grew up to be a beautiful mongrel beast. Today, its Canadian version is influenced by our post-post-modern tendencies. Hence, flamenco con fusion. Add jazz and dancing and the world is complete.

03. JERRY GRANELLI WANTS YOU TO LISTEN | CREATIVE MUSIC WORKSHOP
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jerry Granelli has a heads-on approach to assisting others with their creativity. If you are a musician and you have not checked a CMW session out, then get out.

CREATIVE PROCESS SESSION
November 7-8 | 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM | $75

The Creative Music Workshop's Creative Process session will focus on the foundations of the CMW teachings: the fundamental skills for playing music of any kind will be developed through various creative process exercises:

Listening
Communication
Basic pulse work
Risk taking
Working with fear and self consciousness
Commitment
Working toward the goal of HEARING what to play rather than THINKING about what to play

This is an entry level CMW, but all students are encouraged to attend.
