Thursday, April 22 Rémi-Jean LeBlanc
Find out why the local musicians are extremely excited to hear this Acadian-born and Montreal loved bassist.
Rémi-Jean LeBlanc is proud to present his first album as a leader that was launched in November 2009 at Upstairs Jazz Club in Montreal. His self-titled debut CD, a compilation of exclusively original music, features Rémi-Jean as an accompanist, a soloist and for the first time, as a composer, which provided him the delight of inviting fellow musicians with who he has collaborated in several different projects to perform and record the music. The album features the original quartet that has been active on the Montreal scene for the past few years, with John Roney on piano, Jean-Sébastien Williams on guitar, and Samuel Joly on drums, along with special guests, such as Chet Doxas on tenor saxophone, Yannick Rieu on Soprano saxophone, and Jocelyn Tellier on guitar. Despite his young age (25), Rémi-Jean LeBlanc has already had the opportunity to participate in several recording projects (Yannick Rieu - Spectrum, Ginette Reno - Fais-moi la tendresse, Carl Naud - L'Ascenseur), tour and perform in Asia, Europe, and all over North America, take part in workshops with world-renowned musicians in Paris, and recently, with the financial aid of the Canada Council for the Arts, produce his own album. The music of the album has been described as being airy and open with strong harmonic structures and influenced by jazz, post-fusion movements and rock.
